FAQ

What makes Pergo so durable and beautiful?

Pergo has floors placed in the highest class of wear-resistance for each and every room in your house. Moreover our specially developed surface protection technology makes it very difficult to scuff the floors. This makes Pergo floors very easy to clean and they keep their luster for a very long time.

How are Pergo floors constructed?

Pergo consists of three main components which are bonded together. The wear-resistant surface is made of a durable melamine laminate and bonded to a wood-based (HDF) substrate. The laminate itself is a combination of several different layers merged together under heat and high pressure. Each layer has different properties and functions.

  • the top layer provides strength and durability
  • the decorative layer carries the beautiful, often exclusive, design. The blocked patterns are developed in a special way to ensure the continuity of the decor in the next plank (called end-matching).
  • the base layer provides strength, stability and heat resistance

The specially engineered moisture resistant HDF substrate provides a stable foundation with minimal expansion and contraction. On some of our products the substrate is made extra moisture resistant to give special water protection.A special backing on the underside of the substrate helps to keep your floor stable.

How can I reduce the sound level?

All hard floors have a higher sound level than e.g. a carpet but Pergo has solved this problem. If you choose e.g. a Pergo Original floor with SoundBloc, a built-in sound absorber, the drum sound (clicking sound in the room when walking over floor) will decrease by over 8dB. You can also choose a loose sound absorbing underlay like the Pergo Whisperwalk to reduce the sound level.

Where can I install Pergo?

You can install it in your kitchen, dining room, hallway, living room, bedroom, children's room and even in commercial areas. Pergo has made your choice easier by developing different floors for different needs. Our floor guide helps you in your decision process. Pergo floors are not guaranteed when installed in bathrooms or rooms with a floor drain.

On which surfaces can Pergo be installed?

As Pergo is only 7-8 mm thick, it can be fitted on top of existing floors (vinyl, linoleum, wood floors, particleboard, ceramic tiles, concrete, etc) without having to change thresholds or doors, as long as they are even and flat. Pergo can also be installed on floor heating. (Contact your retailer for more information).

How do I install Pergo?

The glue-free Click System is a very simple installation method for the do-it-yourselfer. In a minimum of time your floor is installed, there is no more mess with glue and you can move in your furniture and enjoy your new floor right away. More detailed information can be found in our installation instructions on each inlay and on our website under 'Installation'.

How do I clean my Pergo floor?

The surface layer of Pergo flooring is hard and compact, so dirt and dust do not adhere to it easily. An occasional damp mopping with a mild detergent, a quick sweeping or light vacuuming with the hard floor attachments are usually all it takes to keep your Pergo floor clean. Do not use soaps or similar greasy products because they may leave a film, dulling the floor. Difficult spots like nail polish, markers, tar and cigarette burns can be removed with acetone or nail polish remover. Pergo floors must never be waxed, polished, sanded or refinished.

Does Pergo scratch?

While Pergo is very resistant to scratching, it is not "scratch-proof". To minimize the risk for scratches we recommend to use felt pads on all easily moved furniture (chairs, tables, etc.) and replace them as needed. Use walk-off mats inside any exterior doorways to catch gravel that may stick to shoes; replace plastic casters with rubber ones and lift rather than slide heavy objects across the floor. Please be sure to use only the hard floor attachments for upright and canister style vacuum cleaners, as the carpet cleaning features can scratch laminate floors.

How does Pergo hold up to pets?

Pergo is the perfect floor for households with pets. To minimize the risk for scratches, make sure that your pets' nails are trimmed regularly. Also, clean up any 'accidents' as soon as possible.

How does moisture, humidity and temperature affect Pergo?

With a wood based context of more than 80%, Pergo is a living material, just like wood planks or parquet. This means that Pergo will be affected by the humidity in the room. In a dry climate the floors will shrink, in a more humid climate they will expand. Therefore it is important to leave space between the wall and the floor. For more details read our installation instructions.

What happens if the floor gets damaged after installation?

A minor damage can easily be corrected with a Pergo repair putty. The repaired patch will blend almost invisibly and be just as durable as the rest of the floor. With a Pergo touch-up kit it´s possible for you to correct a scratch in your floor. Individual planks can be replaced if necessary. (Contact your retailer for more information)
